PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS: Sources of Electric Power

At the present time in the United States, the electric power we generate comes from these primary energy sources:

  • Fossil fuels - 69%
  • Nuclear - 20%
  • Hydropower - 8%
  • Wind - 0.10%
  • Solar - 0.02%
  • Other renewables - 2%

Each of these sources has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of environmental and economic costs.
